Staff Spotlight: Bonnie Lawrence

When you meet Bonnie, you quickly realize she’s someone who has worn many hats in life—wife, mother, hairdresser, lunch lady, motivational speaker, comic, and now a certified Laughter Yoga Leader.

“Laughter Yoga is this wonderful blend of yogic breathing and simulated laughter,” Bonnie explains. “What starts as ‘fake it till you make it’ turns into real laughter, leaving participants with less stress, a better mood, and even pain relief that can last hours—or sometimes days. I’ve truly found that laughter is the best medicine, and I’m so excited to share it with others.”

At Unique, Bonnie works as the Front Desk Production Data Specialist, handling calls, QAing files, archiving documents, and coordinating all incoming and outgoing mail. It’s a role that may fly under the radar, but she knows the impact it has.
“My favorite thing about working at Unique is knowing that what I do every day helps keep shelves stocked at libraries all over the world,” she says with pride.

Bonnie’s most meaningful memory at Unique comes from the pandemic years.
“I’ll never forget how our management team and tech department navigated those challenges,” she recalls. “They created systems that allowed libraries to keep serving patrons safely. While so many of my friends and neighbors lost jobs during that time, Unique made sacrifices, strategized, and weathered the storm. That loyalty and innovation meant so much.”

Outside of work, Bonnie is always seeking adventure. Whether she’s off-roading in her Jeep, reading, swimming, exploring nature, or attending sound healing sessions, she brings the same enthusiasm for life to her free time that she does to her work. A recent highlight? Soaring high above Louisville, Kentucky, in a hot air balloon.
“If you ever get the chance, I urge you to do it!” she says with a smile.

When it comes to libraries, Bonnie puts it best:
“They’re staffed by superheroes and stocked with treasure maps to all the knowledge in existence—and that’s nothing to laugh about!”
