Staff Spotlight: Erik Surber

Graduating with an MLS from the University of Iowa in 1995, Erik began his library career over three decades ago as a college librarian in Tennessee, and he built upon that in various roles in libraries big and small – in California, Arizona, and Iowa.

Erik started his position at Unique as Director of Library Relations just a few years ago. By leveraging his library experience, Erik hopes to understand the challenges modern libraries face. In his role, he helps libraries choose what services Unique offers that will best match their needs, combining his experience in the field with a newly found expertise in tools for libraries to use.

He loves that Unique has provided him with an opportunity to help a multitude of libraries, and his favorite part is getting to visit libraries and see the creative ways they connect with their community. His favorite thing about libraries is how they adapt and change and are continuously reinventing themselves to always be relevant to the community they serve.

Erik currently lives in Arizona with his family. When not working, he likes to read (historical fiction, usually) or spend time with his family hiking, watching movies, or cooking. He loves punk rock, horror movies, and the LA Dodgers.
